Why Fira, and why the centre matters
The most practical base on the island
Fira is the island’s hub, the central bus station connects directly to every village, every beach, and both the port and the airport. The caldera walking path north to Oia starts here. The cable car to the old port departs from within walking distance. The main square, with its restaurants and shops, is a short walk away from the hotel.

Fira has the most varied dining scene on the island, from casual tavernas and gyros spots to caldera-view restaurants with wine lists that do justice to the island’s Assyrtiko grape. Most are within two to ten minutes of the hotel on foot. The team can recommend based on what you’re looking for.
- The cable car & old port
The cable car descends 220 metres to the old port. The old port has restaurants, shops, and is the departure point for boat excursions to the volcano and hot springs.

Three museums are within easy reach on foot, the Museum of Prehistoric Thera, the Santorini Archaeological Museum, and the Santorini Folklore Museum. All are within ten minutes of the hotel.
The Caldera walking path, starting from the hotel
Fira to Oia, the best walk in Santorini
The Fira to Oia hike covers approximately 10.5 km along the caldera cliff, passing through Firostefani and Imerovigli. It starts from the hotel. The path follows the caldera rim northward, the volcanic islands on the left, whitewashed architecture on the right, the Aegean Sea below.
The first section through Firostefani is easy and paved, cafes, hotels, and caldera views the whole way. After Imerovigli the path becomes a genuine trail, more demanding, more rewarding. Most guests do the full walk in three to four hours. Walking north to Oia means finishing at one of the island’s most photographed villages, with the bus back to Fira taking twenty minutes.
It is the kind of thing that turns a good Santorini trip into a great one. And it starts at the door.

Getting Here
From Santorini Airport (JTR)
Santorini Airport is approximately 15 minutes by car or taxi from the hotel. The hotel can arrange airport transfers upon request. Contact reservations@cosmopolitan-santorini.com before arrival.
From Athinios Port (ferry)
The ferry port is approximately 20 minutes by car from Fira. A regular bus service runs between the port and the Fira bus station, journey time around 15 minutes. Taxis are available at the port. The hotel can arrange port transfers upon request.
From Fira bus station
The Fira bus station is five minutes on foot from the hotel. Buses connect Fira to all major destinations on the island, Oia, the beaches, the airport road, and the port, with frequent departures throughout the day.
Parking
Cosmopolitan Suites does not have private parking. Public parking is available in Fira, approximately a ten-minute walk from the hotel. The hotel team can advise on the best options for guests arriving by car or rental vehicle.
